COVID-related death toll in Sarnia-Lambton reaches 50

There have now been 50 COVID-related deaths in Sarnia-Lambton.

Lambton Public Health reported Tuesday morning that an individual in the 80-plus age range died at Bluewater Health.

The health unit also reported 18 new confirmed cases in its daily update for a total of 2,822 since the pandemic began.

The number of active cases continued its downward trend, dropping by 10 to 187, with the number of resolved cases up 27 at 2,585. Positive screenings for Variants of Concern (VOCs) increased by 10 to 99.

Active institutional, school and workplace outbreaks decreased by one to 13. As of Tuesday, there were five long-term care and retirement homes in outbreak. An outbreak declared March 16 at Sumac Lodge has ended. Four schools remained in outbreak and there were outbreaks at four unnamed workplaces.

Bluewater Health had seven COVID-positive patients in hospital, an increase of one over the past 24 hours.
