Vaccine booking expanding for those 70 and up in Sarnia-Lambton

Residents of Sarnia-Lambton aged 70 and older will be eligible to book a COVID-19 vaccine online starting Monday, March 29.

The Government of Ontario announced Sunday that it would be expanding vaccination booking for individuals 70 and older ahead of schedule.

Starting 8 a.m. on Monday, all individuals aged 70 and over in 11 public health units, including Lambton Public Health, will be eligible to book a COVID-19 vaccination appointment at a mass immunization clinic through the provincial online booking system and call centre.

"Thanks to the careful planning of everyone involved in the vaccine rollout, we are able to extend vaccination appointments to more Ontarians ahead of schedule," said Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Christine Elliott in a statement. "But until Ontario receives enough vaccines so that the majority of Ontarians can be vaccinated, it remains critical for everyone to continue following public health measures, so that we can control the spread."

As of March 27, a total of 16,454 doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been administered in Lambton County since the beginning of the immunization rollout on January 26 (14,910 first doses, 1,544 second doses). This number represents about 14 per cent of the eligible population in Lambton County and five times the number of people who have had COVID-19 in the community, according to the Health Unit.

The province is continuing to work with local health units to vaccinate remaining Phase 1 populations, including First Nation, Metis, and Inuit adults, health care workers, adult chronic home care recipients, and residents and staff in congregate care settings for seniors.
