First single digit COVID hike in two weeks

Sarnia-Lambton's COVID-19 incidence rate has increased again, but the area recorded its first single digit hike in new daily cases in two weeks.

Cases went up by just eight over the past 24 hours for a total of 2,651 since March 25, 2020. The number of cases considered resolved increased by 19 to 2,395, lowering the number of active infections by 11 to 209.

On its website Wednesday, Lambton Public Health reported the number of cases per 100,000 population increased from 119 to 160 for the week of March 14 to March 20. The positivity rate also went up to 3.7 per cent from 3.3.

The total number of institutional and school outbreaks increased by one to 14. A patient tested positive at Rosewood Retirement Village on Indian Road North.

As of Wednesday, the public and Catholic school boards had a total of 19 schools in Lambton with at least one student or staff case, down from 25 Tuesday. There were positive cases in 13 local public schools and in six Catholic schools.

Bluewater Health has six positive patients in hospital, up from three on Tuesday.
