UPDATE: Careless smoking cause of Colborne Road house fire

Sarnia fire officials say careless smoking caused an early morning blaze on Colborne Road Monday.

Firefighters were on their way to the East Street firehall just after 2. a.m. for standby due to another fire call, when they spotted a blaze at a home south of Michigan Avenue.

Fire Life Safety Educator Mike Otis said one person was rescued from a window.

Otis said the individual suffered minor cuts and was taken to hospital for observation of smoke inhalation, and has since been released.

Damage is estimated at $60,000.
