Sarnia-Lambton has recorded its first COVID-19 related death in nearly a month.
Lambton Public Health reported Tuesday the death toll since March 25, 2020 has increased to 47. The death of a man in his 70s is the first in the county since February 17. Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade said the death was not believed to be linked to an outbreak.
The health unit said there were 22 new confirmed cases over the past 24 hours for a total of 2,431. The number of cases considered resolved increased by 21 to 2,209, leaving the number of active infections unchanged at 175. Dr. Ranade said 32 local cases have screened positive for a Variant of Concern (VOC).
There are still 10 institutional, school and workplace outbreaks, unchanged from Monday.
The St. Clair Catholic District School Board is now reporting student and staff cases at five Lambton schools, down from six. Cases previously reported at Gregory A. Hogan have been cleared. The Lambton Kent District School Board is reporting cases of COVID-19 at Errol Road Public School and Confederation Central School, 17 schools in the district have active cases as of Tuesday.
Bluewater Health has six positive patients in hospital.
