LPH reports another two dozen COVID cases, school outbreak

Lambton Public Health is reporting 24 new cases of COVID-19, along with 13 resolved cases, in its daily update Sunday. That moves the active case count up 11, to 145.

There have been 2,232 confirmed COVID cases in Sarnia-Lambton since the pandemic began, and 46 deaths.

The number of total resolved cases is at 2,041.

Lambton Public Health said it's also investigating a school outbreak declared on March 6, involving one staff member and one student at Queen Elizabeth II Public School in Sarnia.

The health unit said it's working closely with the Lambton Kent District School Board to provide guidance with respect to IPAC measures to help manage the outbreak and reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission in the facility.

A school outbreak is declared when there are two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in staff (employees, contractors, and volunteers), students or other visitors with an epidemiological link within a 14-day period, where at least one case could have reasonably acquired their infection in the setting.

Lambton Public Health said those impacted have been notified, and no further details will be provided at this time.

There have been 116 new confirmed cases over the past four days due in part to a rapid outbreak being reported at Kettle and Stony Point First Nation. Chief Jason Henry said Friday that there were 34 active cases in the community.

There are still five institutional and workplace outbreaks, and Bluewater Health has three positive patients in hospital.
