New ladder truck for Sarnia fire service

A new ladder truck, costing close to $1.4 million, is being ordered for the Sarnia Fire and Rescue Service.

Sarnia council unanimously approved the purchase, plus a $50,000 prebuild contingency for any minor adjustments, Monday.

Chief Bryan Van Gaver is excited about the new engine.

"This truck we were able to get fully stocked, which is something we've never been able to do before, and we do know that we need an added piece of equipment that wasn't included in that list, because they couldn't provide it," said Van Gaver.

He said they'll also be seeking extended warranties on the apparatus.

Van Gaver said they were able to save over $370,000 by utilizing Sourcewell and obtaining discounts from the Municipal Buying Group Program.
