COVID vaccine pre-registration open for 90-plus in Lambton

Sarnia-Lambton residents aged 90 and older can now pre-register for COVID-19 shots.

Lambton Public Health (LPH) said immunization clinics for that demographic will begin this Saturday March 6, and continue through the week of March 8.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade said the clinics in Point Edward and Forest are by appointment only.

"One of the things we want people to do is register through our online section of the website by telling us your name and your date of birth, etcetera, and then we'll give you a call back to book your appointment," said Dr. Ranade. "So if you're over 90 and you're interested in the vaccine, what we recommend if you're not particularly tech-loving, then have somebody in your support group, your friends or family do the work for you, so they can help to book an appointment."

LPH also has a call centre on standby to help with registrations. It's open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 519-383-8331.

Dr. Ranade said one caregiver who resides in the same household as someone 90-or-older, may also pre-register for a vaccine.

"If you're 90-plus and you live with someone in your household, we're also letting you bring one of the people from your household to that appointment to get immunized, but you have to show that you're living in the same house," he said.

Those aged 80 and older will be able to pre-register for vaccinations using the new online provincial booking system when it launches the week of March 15.
