Former Sarnia police officer and Rebound co-founder remembered

A former veteran Sarnia police officer and co-founder of the Rebound program for youth is being remembered as a gentle giant.

Barry Symington died February 25 at the age of 77 after a long battle with cancer.

Mr. Symington served over 30 years with the city police force, and was assigned to the youth bureau for many of those years. Along with two good friends he helped found Rebound to provide an alternative to court for troubled youth, and dedicated 35 years to the program. Rebound has helped over 40,000 young people.

Cremation has taken place and due to pandemic restrictions a private memorial service will be held. A live stream can be viewed at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 5. The flag at Sarnia City Hall will be at half-mast Friday in honour of Mr. Symington.

Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Sarnia-Lambton Rebound or Bluewater Health Palliative Care.

Arrangements entrusted to the Smith Funeral Home.
