Staff member tests positive for COVID at MGM

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Sarnia's Marshall Gowland Manor (MGM) after a staff member tested positive for the virus.

Lambton County Long-Term Care Division General Manager Jane Joris said people living in the long-term care home and their families were notified Wednesday that Lambton Public Health has declared an outbreak.

Joris said the employee has not entered the Devine Street home since testing positive and is not a direct care staff.

She said all staff and residents will be tested, as per the ministry of health testing guidance.

"We want to assure the people who live at Marshall Gowland Manor, their families and our staff, that their health and safety continues to be our top priority," said Joris. "We are confident in the protection and prevention measures that are in place and will continue conducting thorough, routine staff testing to keep the people living at the Home and our staff safe and healthy."

There are 127 residents at MGM and almost 200 staff members.

It's the third outbreak declared at the home since the pandemic began. The first was in January of 2020 and the second in May of last year. There was just one positive case in each.
