COVID cases climb 29 in Sarnia-Lambton, two more outbreaks

Lambton Public Health has reported a spike in the number of new COVID-19 infections in Sarnia-Lambton.

In its daily update Saturday, the local health agency reported 29 new cases, up to 1,938 since the end of March. It's the highest daily increase since January 21.

The number of resolved cases increased by 10 to 1,813 and the death toll stands unchanged at 45, pushing the number of active cases up by 19 to 80.

There are nine active workplace and institutional outbreaks.

The health unit declared an outbreak at Trillium Villa Long Term Care Community after a staff member tested positive for the virus. An outbreak was also declared at Landmark Village Retirement Home where one staff member was confirmed to have COVID-19.

Lambton Public Health said they're continuing to conduct case and contact management as part of the investigation and testing of all residents and staff is underway.

Bluewater Health is reporting one positive patient in hospital.
