In-class learning resuming in Sarnia-Lambton schools Monday

Sarnia-Lambton schools will reopen for in-person learning February 8.

The provincial government announced Wednesday afternoon that elementary and secondary schools in 13 public health units including Lambton will return to face-to-face learning Monday.

Schools in Toronto, Peel and York regions will continue remote learning until February 16.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce said they're following the best medical advice, with clear support of both Ontario's and the local medical officers of health.

"We are reopening schools across the province knowing that we have taken additional steps and made additional investments to better protect our students and staff," said Lecce. "Nothing is more important than returning kids to school safely because it is crucial for their development, mental health, and future success."

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams said reducing the transmission of COVID-19 is fundamental to keeping our communities and schools safe.

"Our collective efforts, like strictly adhering to all public health measures, in addition to enhanced safety measures in schools, will help keep communities healthy and students learning alongside their peers in their classrooms," he said.

In the public health units allowed to return to in-person learning on February 8, before and after school childcare programs are permitted to resume on that day. February 5 will be the last day for emergency childcare.
