Sessions Cannabis joins Sarnia's budding retail pot market

The CEO and co-founder of a chain of Ontario cannabis stores thinks Sarnia can sustain a dozen or more retail pot shops.

Steven Fry made the comment Wednesday as the company celebrated the grand opening of its new location at 600 Murphy Road. He said typically a city can support one shop per 5,000 population.

Fry said they're only open for curbside pick up and delivery for now, but he's confident Sessions will become a local favourite once customers are allowed to shop in-store.

"Brands like us, we have such a great in-store experience that once we open up, we have no doubt that customers will naturally flock to us," he said. "We've got the best experience in the city, and with the variety we carry we're very competitive. You can order anything you want at Sessions where a lot of other players in the market will only carry select product."

Fry said they've hired 12 local employees, including the store owner and manager who are both from Sarnia.

Sessions also has stores open in Windsor, Kitchener, Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area.

According to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario website, there are 11 more regulated cannabis stores with applications in progress.

Sarnia's first cannabis store, Bluewater Joint, opened its doors last week.
