Sarnia police investigate fourth homicide of 2021

Sarnia police are investigating what appears to be the city's fourth homicide this month.

Officers were called to a home in the 500 block of Devine Street at around 1:35 p.m. Tuesday to conduct a welfare check. They entered the residence and located a deceased male.

Police say the death is being treated as suspicious in nature and the property is being held as a crime scene by the criminal investigations branch.

The police service is calling upon area residents who have video surveillance in the 500 block of Devine Street, Russell Street South, Ontario Street, and Conrad Street to contact Sarnia police. Investigators are looking for footage within the time frame of 5 p.m. Monday to 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-344-8861 extension: 5300, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Police are reminding homeowners to secure their doors and windows and ensure outdoor lighting is on and working. Those with elderly family members that live alone are advised to check in on their wellbeing periodically. Additionally, any suspicious activity should be reported to the police.

"We would also like to reassure the public that our officers and detectives have been diligently working on these investigations and utilizing all available resources and personnel to solve these recent crimes," a statement from the Sarnia police service read.

Unless determined as otherwise, the incident marks Sarnia's fourth homicide in less than four weeks.

On Sunday, police announced the death of a 66-year-old woman who was found inside her home on Essex Street. No other details or arrests have been made.

Earlier this month, investigators arrested a man in relation to the death of a 26-year-old man at a home on Confederation Street.

Days after the first homicide, officers responded to a report of a woman who sustained serious injuries at a home on Lee Court. The woman later succumbed to her injuries in hospital and a 45-year-old male was charged with first-degree murder.
