UPDATE: Sarnia police ID victim in city's third homicide this month

Sarnia police have identified the victim in the city's third homicide this month.

On Saturday, January 23, 2021, at about 6:20 p.m. officers, along with Sarnia firefighters and Lambton paramedics, responded to the 200 block of Essex Street where a deceased female was found at a residence.

Sunday afternoon they identified the deceased as Sue Elin Lumsden, 66, of Sarnia.

Police said the Criminal Investigations Branch has taken over the investigation and is treating it as a homicide. They said the residence just west of Russell Street is being held as a crime scene and the investigation is still very preliminary.

Further details have not been released.

Investigators are asking members of the public who reside in the neighbourhood surrounding the 200 block of Essex Street and have video surveillance to contact the police service. Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is asked to contact the Criminal Investigation Branch Information Line at 519-344-8861, extension 5300, or Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Police said they would like to remind everyone to ensure that windows and doors to their residences are locked and secured properly, and if they have exterior sensor lights or just exterior lights, to leave them on during the evening hours.

Anyone concerned for their immediate safety, should not hesitate to call the Sarnia Police Service.

It's Sarnia's third homicide in three weeks. A man was killed at a row house complex on Confederation Street just east of Indian Road, and a woman died in an incident at a home on Lee Court, off Murphy Road. Arrests have been made in both cases.
