St. Joseph's Hospice receives $25K donation from foundation

Sarnia's St. Joseph's Hospice has received another generous donation.

The Lockwood Foundation is giving the facility at 475 Christina St. N. $25,000.

The money will go to the COVID-19 Relief Fund that was launched in April 2020.

"On behalf of the board of directors, staff, volunteers, residents, and clients in our community, I want to thank The Lockwood Foundation for their donation of $25,000," said hospice Executive Director Larry Lafranier in a statement.

"This generous gift will go a long way to help fund operational costs as we must raise approximately $130,000 every month to keep the hospice doors open. Despite government funding, the generosity of our community and memorial donations, the hospice has often reached its yearly budget however since the pandemic it has been more of a challenge."

A spokesperson for the Lockwood Foundation, who wished to remain anonymous, said they view financial support for the hospice as being critical at this time, so the care and service provided can be sustained. The spokesperson also said the foundation plans to explore future funding opportunities with St. Joseph's Hospice.

Fund Development Manager Maria Muscedere said the Lockwood Foundation has supported the hospice since 2008.

"This gift will have a profound impact on our ability to serve the Sarnia-Lambton community. We are incredibly touched by this generous support and look forward to working with the Lockwood Foundation in the future."
