After trending lower for a couple of days, there was a noticeable uptick in Sarnia-Lambton's COVID-19 cases Thursday.
Lambton Public Health reported 45 new confirmed cases for a total of 1,730 since late March. There are 1,483 recoveries, up 33, which means the active case count is at 214, an increase of 12 from Wednesday.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade told Sue Storr on CHOK (103.9 FM, 1070 AM) Thursday morning, before the latest update, that encouraging numbers over a couple of days can be misleading.
"Yesterday we had only ten cases and 32 recoveries, and so that's a good sign, but we need to make sure that that stays that way or goes down, it could just be a blip and then we might get another day where there is 40, 50, 60 people who are cases in a day, so we just have to hang on and not over-predict this yet."
Bluewater Health says the number of COVID-positive patients at the Sarnia hospital increased by three to 13.
Sarnia-Lambton's death toll remains unchanged at 33.
The number of institutional and workplace outbreaks is down one at 12.
