Sarnia council briefs - No right turn on red at Brock/London

Sarnia council has approved an immediate temporary safety measure for the London Road and Brock Street intersection.

A no-right-turn-on-red sign will be installed on Brock Street.

Robert Dickieson, who owns the house at 204 London Road, made the suggestion Monday after seeing numerous accidents and near misses on a regular bases.

Council previously directed staff to paint a ladder crosswalk and install a temporary traffic signal ahead of signage, in the east-west direction on London Road.

Sarnia council has declared a vacant lot on Emma Street surplus and donated the land to Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton.

The rear and side yards of the south end property are immediately adjacent to the Bluewater Lighthouse Christian Academy, at 297 Stuart Street.

The city has leased it to the Lighthouse Group, for free, for the past 10-years, so children's play equipment on the property could be used by the community at large.

City staff, when reviewing the lease, noted that the equipment was removed over the last few years and not replaced.

Establishing an airport action committee has Sarnia council support.

It's hoped council could receive the committee's work plan by February 8, so members could be recruited by the end of that month.

It's proposed the committee hold its first meeting in March and provide feedback to council in April.

The "No More Stolen Sisters" flag will be raised in Sarnia next month.

Council approved raising the flag, on behalf of the Lambton Native Friendship Centre, at Paul Blundy Park for one week, starting February 14.

Appropriate locations for red dress installations throughout the downtown will also be explored.
