Sarnia-Lambton COVID case count up 72, two more outbreaks

Sarnia-Lambton's COVID-19 case count went up 72 Sunday to more than 1,600 since late March.

In its daily update, Lambton Public Health (LPH) reported that there are now 1,616 confirmed cases and 1,347 recoveries, leaving the number of active cases at 238, an increase of 39.

There are two more outbreaks for a total of 14.

LPH said the new outbreaks are at workplaces with one linking six staff to the virus and the other involving four staff. A workplace outbreak is declared when there are two or more lab-confirmed cases with an epidemiological link in the workplace within a 14-day period, where both or several cases could have reasonably acquired their infection in the workplace.

No other details were released as the health unit continues its investigation. Workplaces are only named if public notification will help to identify additional close contacts that cannot be determined through contact tracing.

Sarnia-Lambton's death toll remains at 31.

On its website Sunday Bluewater Health reported one new patient in hospital with the coronavirus for a total of 13, up one since Saturday. The number of COVID-related hospital deaths is at 22.
