MP Gladu's travel tales inspiration for book

Marilyn Gladu can now add author to her list of titles.

The Sarnia-Lambton MP has published a book, 'Tales of the Globe Trot' highlighting stories from her travels around the world as a chemical engineer.

"There's a story of when I was in Indonesia, I had quite the adventure there where I was doing an audit," said Gladu. "Unfortunately they had a riot and they were going to close the airport. They were in the past conquered by the Dutch and they don't like the Dutch, and you know me I look pretty Dutch, so there's quite a good tale in there about that adventure."

Gladu said while parliament was shut down in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she found the time to fulfill her goal and write her first book.

"There was no events, there was nothing going on and you had to stay in your house and I tired of jigsaw puzzles pretty quickly," she said. "A friend of mine said 'You always wanted to write a book, so why don't you do that' so I started and found a publisher and it all just came together."

Gladu worked as an engineer for Dow Chemical for 21 years and went on to become the director of engineering at Suncor.

'Tales of the Globe Trot' is available at the Book Keeper in Sarnia or online at the Friesen Press bookstore.
