Students log in for return to remote learning

The holiday break is over for students but they're not returning to class, at least not in person.

As part of the provincewide lockdown that started on Boxing Day, high school students don't return to class in person until January 25, and elementary students have a week of remote learning before going to back class on January 11.

Lambton Kent District School Board Director of Education John Howitt said when the bell rings Monday morning, there will be a short class for all students, junior kindergarten to grade 12.

"They should attend their class at regular bell time, the teachers will be taking attendance," said Howitt. "We'll be checking on technology needs for those who attend that class and then during the rest of the day we'll be connecting with and troubleshooting any students who were not able to attend."

Director of Education for the St. Clair Catholic District School Board Deb Crawford said students will be contacted by their teachers Monday to make sure they're ready for synchronous learning beginning Tuesday, January 5.

"The day will consist of 300 minutes of learning opportunities," said Crawford. "So they have a combination of 225 minutes of synchronous opportunities and 75 minutes of asynchronous. All of the instruction is based on the Ontario curriculum and aligns with the work students were doing prior to the break."

Parents can visit the the St. Clair Catholic District School Board website or the Lambton Kent District School Board site for more information.

There's no change for students already enrolled in virtual learning.
