Sarnia-Lambton COVID count up 120 since Thursday

Following the New Year's holiday break, Sarnia-Lambton's COVID-19 case count has increased by 120.

In its update Saturday morning, Lambton Public Health reported the number of confirmed cases since March 25 is now at 875, up from 755 Thursday.

Recoveries increased 28 for a total of 598, putting the number of active cases at 249, up 92.

Four new long-term care outbreaks have been reported. The most recent were declared Friday at Afton Park Place in Sarnia and at Petrolia's Lambton Meadowview Villa where one staff member at each home had tested positive. Also on Friday, the health unit declared an outbreak at Village on the St. Clair retirement home on Front Street in Sarnia with two staff testing positive.

Thursday an outbreak was declared at North Lambton Lodge in Forest after a resident tested positive.

The health unit said a long-term care or other communal living setting outbreak is declared facility-wide when there is one or more lab-confirmed case(s) in a staff member or resident, and possible exposure to others in the setting has occurred.

The number of outbreaks including long-term care, schools and workplaces totalled 19 Saturday.

The pandemic death toll remained unchanged at 28.

On Saturday Bluewater Health reported six COVID-positive patients in hospital.
