A dozen new COVID cases in Sarnia-Lambton Thursday

Sarnia-Lambton saw an increase of 12 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, continuing an unprecedented surge in the last couple of weeks.

Lambton Public Health, in its daily update, said the total caseload since March 25 is now at 577, up from 565 Wednesday.

Recoveries went up six at 451, deaths were unchanged at 28, which means the number of active cases has increased by six to 98.

The health unit is still reporting seven outbreaks, six at workplaces and one at Trillium Villa nursing home in Sarnia where two staff have tested positive.

Added precautionary measures were put in place at the Lambton County-run Meadowview Villa and Marshall Gowland Manor due to "suspected outbreaks."

There are two positive patients at Bluewater Health, unchanged since Tuesday.

Since December 14, Lambton Public Health has reported 130 new cases.

The incidence rate per 100,000 population for December 13 to December 19 rose to 56 from 16.

Thursday morning on its website Bluewater Health reported three patients in the Sarnia hospital with the virus, up one, while the number of patient deaths remained at 19.

Lambton Public Health will not be providing daily COVID surveillance reports on Friday Christmas Day, Saturday Boxing Day, and Friday, January 1. And on certain days over the holiday period there will only be the dashboard reports, not the detailed reports. See the chart below.
