Driver charged with impaired, assaulting officer

A 30-year-old St. Clair Township woman is facing several charges, including impaired driving and assaulting an officer, after being stopped by Lambton OPP on River Road.

Officers pulled over a car at around 8:30 p.m. November 19 after receiving a complaint from a resident.

When police tried to place the driver under arrest, it's alleged she resisted and kicked the officer multiple times while being put into the cruiser.

The driver was transported to the Lambton OPP detachment where they refused to provide a breath sample.

The suspect is charged with Operation While Impaired- Alcohol and Blood, Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand and Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest, pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada.

She was being held in custody and has an appearance scheduled in Sarnia court.

Lambton OPP reported at least nine impaired driving arrests during the month of November.

Between January and October of this year, Lambton OPP have laid 82 impaired driving charges, compared to 62 impaired charges laid during the same period in 2019.
