Video game marathon for charity starts Friday

The sixth annual Playing For Charity 24-hour video game marathon kicks off at 2 p.m. Friday but will take place in a basement instead of Lambton Mall.

In past years, a makeshift living room was set up inside the mall, but COVID-19 has prevented that this year.

COOL 106.3 Morning Show Host Max Major is one of four local gamers taking part.

He said he's thankful for the community's support over the years.

"Over the years, we've raised over $13,000 for children's charities," said Major. "This year we're raising money for St. Clair Child and Youth Services. Last year we raised over $4,000 alone in one year which was a new benchmark for us. So, this year we aren't going to be in the Lambton Mall, we're not getting that foot traffic because it's all online. We'll see what kind of support it gets this year."

Major said donating to St. Clair Child and Youth Services is especially important during the pandemic and says it's critical for families to have free, round-the-clock, access to counselling and mental health supports.

He said all of the gamers have tested negative for COVID-19.
