Former Sting, now OHL linesman to work World Junior tournament

A former Sarnia Sting player is among six Ontario Hockey League officials chosen to work the World Junior Hockey Championship in Edmonton from December 25, to January 5, 2021.

Ben O'Quinn, who played three seasons with the Sting from 2007 to 2010, was selected by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and Hockey Canada.

The Woodstock native joins fellow OHL linesmen Matt Ceko of St. Catharines, Adam Harris of Hamilton, Matt Mannella of Niagara Falls, and referees Carter Sandlak of London and Tyson Stewart of Almonte.

The IIHF Officiating Committee decided to select an all-Canadian line-up of 26 officials - 14 referees and 12 linesmen. The decision was made to ensure the health and safety of all participants due to COVID-19 and current travel restrictions.

"As a League, we are thrilled to see these six officials get the opportunity to officiate in the prestigious World Junior Hockey Championship," said OHL Director of Officiating Conrad Haché. "Just like the players competing, this is a unique opportunity for these officials and one they have worked very hard to achieve."

All six officials are products of the Hockey Canada Officiating Program, which includes six levels of certification and is the foundation for the training and development of officials across Canada.
