Sarnia teen charged with impaired in crash causing power outage

A 19-year-old Sarnia man is charged with impaired driving in a crash Wednesday night that caused a power outage in the city's north end.

Sarnia police responded to a single-vehicle collision in the 1400 block of Lakeshore Road just after 7:30 p.m.

Police said a vehicle left the road and struck a hydro pole, cutting power to about 380 Bluewater Power customers.

The male driver and two passengers escaped without serious injuries.

Police said the driver failed a roadside test and was taken into custody.

After failing a second test, police charged the teen with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol concentration of over 80 milligrams.

Bluewater Power crews were on scene until just after 12:30 a.m. making repairs to the damaged pole and hydro lines.
