Weekly United Way campaign update

There are just six weeks left to go in the Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign.

The annual fundraising effort is hoping to raise $1.9 million.

Executive Director Dave Brown said so far they've raised $836,000, or 44 per cent of their target.

He said they're hopeful that they will surpass the 50 per cent fundraising mark within the next two weeks.

"We are still consistently $200,000 behind last year's pace," said Brown. "So, fortunately, we're not falling behind last year's pace we're keeping our own and we still have another five or six weeks to go so we're still hopeful. This time last year we did reach that $1 million mark so we're hopeful that we'll be able to do that sometime in the next week or so."

Brown said right now they're pushing the first annual On The Dot Delivery Service Bottle Drive set for Saturday, November 14 and the Shepherd's Pie and Lasagna Frozen Take-Out Dinner on November 20.

So far 1,800 donors have supported this year's campaign. Brown anticipates they'll need about 4,200 donors by the end of the year to reach their target.

The United Way helps fund 18 local agencies providing 36 programs and services to the community.
