Local health unit reports decrease in active COVID-19 cases

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Sarnia-Lambton is now down to six.

The Lambton Public Health Unit reported six active cases on Saturday night, down from nine cases. However, one new case was reported on Saturday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 368.

The number of deaths related to the novel coronavirus in the region remains at 25. There are also two current outbreaks that remain in place, at Twin Lakes Terrace and an unnamed workplace.

Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliot said 978 new cases were reported across the province on Saturday, marking the highest single-day increase in cases so far. Meanwhile, 625 cases in Ontario were marked as resolved.

The provincial case count is now at 69,331. To date, 59,424 people in Ontario have recovered from the virus while 3,086 deaths have been reported.
