A collection of free online mini-courses from Lambton College, aimed at teaching tangible skills in under an hour, are getting plenty of use.
The Sarnia school launched eBits Mini-Courses back in May in response to the education needs of the community during the COVID pandemic.
Content and Recruitment Expert Diana Forbes said around 6,300 eBits have already been delivered to over 3,000 people.
"They're focused on developing tangible skills, like photography or understanding electricity or a guide to online learning -- they're free-focused learning that can be done in an hour or less."
Forbes said the nearly 50 available courses help prepare future students coming into college, while also working as a life-long learning tool for others.
She added that they are not credited courses and are meant to be more interest-based.
Fellow Content and Recruitment Expert Sandy Vascotto said the offering took off at a pace that the school would have never expected.
"It's going absolutely wonderfully. The uptake has just been incredible and unprecedented."
Vascotto said the pandemic has caused people to find new avenues of learning.
"The college has a lot of resources in terms of expertise and knowledge-based resources, which are not always readily accessible to the community. And when you put that in a form that gives access to people to tangible, skill-based learning that they can get access to, I think people recognize that strength and that opportunity and they grab it."
