Man charged with impaired driving after head-on crash

A Sarnia man has been charged following a head-on crash involving a Bluewater Power truck.

The Sarnia Police Service said on Wednesday shortly before 12:30 p.m., a pickup truck was travelling east on Campbell Street in the city when it crossed over the centre line near Kirby Street and struck the Bluewater Power truck that was heading west.

The occupants of the Bluewater Power truck were not injured, but both vehicles sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.

A police officer who responded to the scene found the driver of the pickup truck in a semi-conscious state along with evidence of recent drug use. The driver was arrested and taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.  While at the hospital, a drug recognition expert examined the driver and concluded that he was impaired by a combination of drugs.

As a result, 35-year-old Robert Allan Larocque of Sarnia is charged with drug-impaired operation of a vehicle and his licence has been suspended for 90 days. He has since been released from hospital with a future court date.
