Lambton MOH expects post-Thanksgiving uptick in COVID cases

Lambton's medical officer of health expects to see an uptick in COVID cases in a week or two as a result of social interaction over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Dr. Sudit Ranade told Sue Storr on CHOK (103.9 FM, 1070 AM) Tuesday that, compared to other parts of the province, Sarnia-Lambton continues to do well.

There is just one active case, but two new confirmed cases were reported over the weekend after several days of zero cases.

Dr. Ranade is confident that people understand that just because we have few to no active cases doesn't mean the virus is not in the community.

"One, I think people are taking it very seriously, and that's great. I think people are, in general, trying to do as much as they can to avoid getting COVID themselves and trying to minimize their social activities, so I hope that's a big part of what's going on," said Dr. Ranade. "I think the second part of it too though is that where you're seeing it spike is in places where a lot of people may not be able to actually physically avoid being close together."

Bluewater Health reports one patient in hospital with the virus and 15 with tests pending including pre-surgical screening.

The COVID-positive patient is a non-resident who remains in ICU.
