The first case of COVID-19 in a Lambton County school has been confirmed.
The Lambton Kent District School Board said it was notified by Lambton Public Health Tuesday that there's a confirmed case in Colonel Cameron Public School in Corunna.
The notice does not indicate whether the infected individual is a student or staff member.
Board Director John Howitt said they aren't disclosing specifics.
"We'd really like to protect the personal health information of the students involved and, potentially, the staff involved within the school," said Howitt. "We're just not going to comment on the age or who it is in the school community."
Howitt said two classes totalling about 45 people have been sent to quarantine.
"Public health has informed them directly, partially in a letter that we've given them as well as information. Lambton Public Health will continue to follow up with them over the quarantine time. I believe the date is October 22 when those students are able to return to school," he said.
Howitt said if students, in quarantine, are well and able to attend online, the teaching and learning will continue as early as Wednesday.
"We've got that all in place just in case this kind of a scenario happened."
Lambton Public Health said it's working closely with the school and school community and is contacting any individuals (students and staff) who may have been in potential contact with the virus.
The health unit said if you have not been contacted, you have not been in close contact with the confirmed case.
