Organizers hoping plans for airport runway concert take off

The runway at Sarnia's Chris Hadfield Airport is being transformed into a drive-in concert venue for a couple of nights.

"Rocking the Runway", presented by Bluewater Borderfest Music Festival, CHOK, and COOL 106.3, is being held October 23 and 24.

The Reklaws and Scott Manery and the Barnburners take the stage on the 23rd, while Big Wreck will be joined by Rodney James and The Riot on the 24th.

Tourism Sarnia-Lambton Executive Director Mark Perrin said there's capacity for 200 vehicles.

"It's a minimum of two people per car but then you can add up as many as the seatbelts in your car to stay within your social circle. So, that's how tickets will work and we're really looking forward to it."

Perrin said similar events have been successful in other municipalities.

"We look across the board at what's going on, not only in Ontario and Canada but across the world," he said. "Knowing that these drive-ins are happening and are being done and are safe and can be managed with all of the protocols in place, we thought 'how can we do this in Sarnia-Lambton?'."

There will be two large 20 by 20 foot screens on either side of the live stage showcasing a photo gallery including the names and faces of essential workers across Sarnia-Lambton.

Anyone who knows of an essential worker that should be recognized can submit their pictures and information before October 16 to bluewaterborderfest@gmail.com.

The Kinsmen Club of Sarnia will also be on site selling drive in style food and drinks and raising money for the local food banks.

Tickets range from $35 to $45 and will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at www.ticketscene.ca.
