United Way campaign surpasses $500K but behind 2019 pace

The pandemic-challenged Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign is over the $500,000 mark.

Executive Director Dave Brown said they've raised $515,000 or 27 per cent of the $1.9 million target.

Brown said despite the success over the first few weeks, they're trailing last year's campaign.

"We're actually quite a bit behind last year's pace but we're not concerned yet, we're still in the early innings," said Brown. "We've got 820 donors so far, which we think is fairly good actually for this time of year. The mail is coming in strong, we're getting more and more campaigns that are kicking off and some of them are looking quite strong. So, although we are behind last year, we think the campaign is off to a good start."

Brown said the LCBO campaign, which raised over $40,000 last year, wraps up on Sunday.

"We have a number of employee campaigns that seem to be off to a good start including Imperial, INEOS Styrolution and CF Industries," he said. "Reliance Home Comfort kicked off on Wednesday and they set a $6,000 goal. By the end of that day they were already at almost $10,000 and Reliance matches dollar for dollar."

The United Way funds 18 agencies providing 36 community programs and services.
