New approach to annual Sherwood Village food drive

Sarnia's 10th annual fall food drive in Sherwood Village is changing this year to comply with pandemic restrictions.

Organizer Shana Fellows of Exit Realty is asking people to drop-off non-perishable food donations for the Inn of the Good Shepherd between 9 a.m. and noon Saturday.

"Generally each year, we raise 1,700 to 2,700 pounds of food for the Inn with the help of high school volunteers, friends and family and my co-worker Theresa Powers, here at Exit Realty," said Fellows. "This year, due to COVID, we're unable to go door-to-door, so we will be set up in the parking lot at Finch, Trudeau and Wellington, out in front of the old Micor Sports."

Fellows said they'll be collecting donations in another neighbourhood October 10.

"Due to not being able to go door-to-door through Sherwood Village, I've decided to add in another food drive that's going to take place the following weekend in Bright's Grove, out in front of the Foodland there, with my co-worker Meghan DiBrita at Exit."

She said they'll be set up from 9 a.m. until noon that day as well.

Fellows said the Inn relies on this large donation every year around Thanksgiving, so she hopes by adding a second location they'll keep donations up.

Contactless pick-up can be requested by contacting Fellows at shana@336exit.com or 519-381-3937.
