Spooked by coronavirus, Reapers Realm cancels season

A Halloween tradition for many local families has been scared off by COVID-19.

Reapers Realm in Sombra has spooked patrons of all ages for the last 20 years, but this season has been cancelled.

Owner Carrie Baxter said it's the first time since opening they will not be holding their Haunted Forest Ride and other scream-inducing attractions.

She said it wasn't an easy decision.

"We were waiting for the Brigden Fair to find out what they were doing and when they decided that they were closing that's when we figured it was something that we had to do," said Baxter. "The impact will be our customers, I know there's a lot of them that are upset we aren't running. I'm hoping we'll be able to bounce back, it depends on the virus and what happens."

Baxter said the cancellation of the season has resulted in 120 jobs lost.

She said they hope to bring back the attraction next year, bigger and better.
