Driver charged with impaired after cyclist hit by vehicle

A male cyclist is in hospital and a Sarnia man is charged after a collision early Wednesday morning.

Sarnia police were called to the intersection of Ontario Street and East Street at about 12:15 a.m.

Cst. John Sottosanti said a cyclist is in hospital in stable but serious condition after being struck by a vehicle.

"At the scene as officers continued their investigation, grounds were formed to arrest the driver of the vehicle for impaired operation," said Sottosanti. "The suspect was transported to Sarnia Police Headquarters where a breath demand was made. Upon completion of testing with the Intoxilyzer, it is alleged that the driver was twice over the legal limit."

Cst. Sottosanti said 35-year-old Dylan James Ladouceur is charged with operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm and operation of a vehicle while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who was in the area at the time is asked to contact Cst. Mark Berger at 519-344-8861, ext 6156.
