Donations still needed for pandemic-battered Imperial Theatre

Sarnia's Imperial Theatre is participating in Tuesday's "Light Up Live Day" to raise awareness about the pandemic's impact on the entertainment industry.

Executive Director Brian Austin said one hour after sunset, venues in the live-events industry still affected will be illuminated in red to show support for each other.

"If you drive by the Imperial Theatre the marquee will be lit up and it will have lightuplive.ca on the marquee," said Austin. "What local people are encouraged to do is support their local theatres. So, if people are interested, they can make a donation at www.ImperialTheatre.net."

Austin said they should be raising the curtain on their season opener this week, but still can't open.

"I think we were one of the first businesses in Sarnia to close. We closed on the 12th of March and we cancelled three sold out shows that weekend and there really is no end in sight."

He said they've now refunded over $87,000 tickets since March and deferred over $250,000 in revenue from shows they've had to postpone.
