A student testing centre at the former SCITS high school on Wellington Street is already seeing a steady flow of traffic with the school year just underway.
Lambton Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade said any student who meets "symptomatic" criteria should make an appointment to get tested.
He said there's concern about students missing class time, but adds it's important to rule out COVID-19.
"There is a symptom checklist that's been put out, there's a screening tool and things like that," said Ranade. "If you would fail that screening tool, if there's a symptom on that tool that you have that might be consistent with COVID-19 that is preventing the child from being at school, then that's really the point of getting the test so we can rule out COVID in those kids and get them back into school as soon as they're feeling better."
Dr. Ranade said two more student testing centres will be set up this week. He said tests are not likely to come back positive.
"Because it's cough and cold season and because the prevalence of COVID-19 is currently low in Lambton county, essentially 98 per cent of the coughs and colds that you see will be exactly just that."
As of Monday morning, there were 90 school-related cases province-wide, including students and staff but none in Lambton.
Lambton Public Health reported no change to the local caseload in its update Sunday night.
There are two active cases.
