The Sarnia and District Humane Society has struggled to raise money during the pandemic, and is hoping an agreement with the Bright's Grove Animal Hospital will help it maintain services.
The animal shelter has purchased 49 per cent of the shares in the hospital for an undisclosed amount of money.
The returns will help the Society feed and look after animals in its care.
Dr. Rodger Griffiths of the Bright's Grove hospital said it's a great partnership.
"We get to see a variety of animals that maybe we wouldn't see otherwise and work on them, with permission from the Humane Society, and do surgeries on animals that might not see it otherwise. So, it's a win-win and we're excited about it."
Dr. Griffiths has been providing services to the humane society for the past four years. He visits the shelter twice a week to inspect, and spay and neuter animals when needed.
This year's Humane Society fundraisers, including the annual golf tournament, have been cancelled.
Only $10,000 has been raised in 2020 compared to upwards of $70,000 in a normal year.
This year's shelter budget is an estimated $1.8-million.
