Sarnia council approves subdivision development at Sunset Golf Course

Sarnia council has given the green light to a sizeable subdivision development along the Golden Mile.

Councillors approved official plan and rezoning amendments on Monday, for 1873 London Line, which is currently occupied by the Sunset Golf Course.

"This is a very exciting opportunity for the city to enjoy the immense benefits of a new development at the Sunset Golf Course area, which includes 135 new residential lots," said Councillor Bill Dennis.

Councillor Brian White was also upbeat about the draft plans.

"I'm very happy to see this intensification, I think it's a good use of the land," said White. "It does reiterate a previous concern that we have, I think, in regards to pedestrians using this area. I'm not sure where it lies yet in terms of the plan, but that path that we've approved for the future may need to be reprioritized to a sooner date so that we can create a pedestrian and bicycle-friendly area up and down this stretch of road."

Councillor White has pitched a multiuse trail to address London Line safety concerns for pedestrians and cyclists in the past.

In addition to 135 residential lots, JR Capital Holdings Inc. wants to develop a commercial block and leave space for a park on the property on the south side of London Line, between Blackwell Side Road and Telfer Road.
