Sarnia police are reminding drivers with licence plate stickers that expired before March, to go get them renewed or face the prospect of a ticket.
Cst. John Sottosanti said a COVID-19 grace period remains in effect until further notice for those whose stickers expired after March 1.
"According to the Government of Ontario right now, as of March 1, 2020, all the products that they deliver, so say validation stickers and driver's licence, there is an exemption period and it's not determined when that will be completed at this time," he said. "Now if your information expired before March 1, 2020, so prior to the pandemic, unfortunately, you were obliged to have that done and thus you may receive a ticket for that."
The province announced the suspension of renewals of driver’s licences, licence plate stickers, and health cards on March 19.
Sottosanti said the fine for an expired sticker is $110.
"Individuals do still have the opportunity to renew their validation stickers online, as well as their driver's licence as long as a photo is not required. As well you are able to attend Service Ontario and purchase the various products."
Service Ontario encourages those with products that expired after March 1 to avoid in-person visits until they're notified.
