UPDATE: Sudden thunderstorm prompts warning Friday afternoon

Environment Canada is warning of the potential for severe thunderstorms on Friday afternoon.

The national weather agency posted a severe thunderstorm warning for Sarnia, Petrolia and Western Lambton County at around 1:10 p.m.

Meteorologists were tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms, capable of producing strong wind gusts, strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

The cluster was located 11 kilometres west of Petrolia to Sombra, moving west at around 15 kilometres per hour.

Environment Canada said there's the chance of torrential rain, and wind gusts of up to 90 km/h.

The warning was lifted just after 2 p.m.

There was an outage reported by Bluewater Power at around 1:30 p.m., affecting over 500 in the Cathcart and Modeland area.

The utility said it was the result of tree contact with lines. Service was fully restored just before 3 p.m.
