Man who died tragically in Georgian Bay cottage country remembered

A man who died while vacationing at his family cottage is being remembered in Sarnia.

The family of 40-year-old Matthew Nixon said he tragically passed away July 5 at Six Mile Lake.

In an obituary, posted by Smith Funeral Home in Sarnia, Nixon is remembered for enjoying the outdoors and his interest in science, engineering, boat building and music.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP said Sunday they were investigating the sudden death of a 40-year-old man who had to be pulled from the water of Six Mile Lake that morning.

Police, Simcoe Paramedic Services, and Georgian Bay Fire Services responded to a summer residence on the lake at around 4:25 a.m. following a 911 call reporting a man without vital signs.

Police said despite efforts of first responders and area residents, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing but the incident was deemed not suspicious.
