St. Clair Catholic board ratifies local OECTA contracts

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board has ratified local contract agreements with the union representing Ontario's Catholic teachers.

Trustees voted in favour of the agreements with the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) during a virtual board meeting Tuesday. They had been overwhelmingly ratified by the elementary and secondary association memberships in online voting last week.

A provincial agreement with OECTA was reached in March and local bargaining began through virtual teleconferences in June.

“I want to congratulate our executive manager of Human Resource Services, James Duff, for leading the board’s negotiations with our teachers’ associations,” said Chair John Van Heck. “We are pleased that we were able to bring these talks to a successful conclusion in these uncertain times.”

“Our constructive relationship with the leadership of our teachers’ associations has helped to carry us through this unusual process,” said Director of Education Deb Crawford. “Congratulations to James and to Wayne Bechard and Chad Coene, the presidents of OECTA elementary and secondary.”

The OECTA contracts run through August 31, 2022.
