No COVID institutional outbreaks currently in Sarnia-Lambton

For the first time since late March, there are no COVID-19 institutional outbreaks in Sarnia-Lambton.

Afton Park Place, which had just one confirmed case among staff, was cleared Thursday by Lambton Public Health.

The first of nine outbreaks was declared March 26 at Sarnia's Landmark Village Retirement Home. It lasted until May 6 with a total of 40 cases and the deaths of six residents.

The worst outbreak occurred at Sarnia's Vision Nursing Home running from April 23 to June 18. There were 54 cases and 10 deaths linked to the Wellington Street home.

Overall, the 105 cases among residents and staff in long-term care homes account for 36 per cent of all confirmed cases in the county.

For nearly two weeks now, the local caseload has remained the same at 285 with 257 resolved. There have been a total of 25 deaths which leaves the current number of active cases at just three.

It was two weeks ago Friday, June 19 that Sarnia-Lambton advanced to Stage 2 of the province's reopening plan, and public health officials continue to closely monitor the situation.

Bluewater Health has no patients with the virus and 18 are in hospital suspected of having it with tests pending.
