Sting General Manager Dylan Seca said Geci will bring a lot to the team.
“He’s a rangy centreman, great skater, he’s smooth and gets around the ice really well,” he said. “He plays both ends of the ice and has offensive upside. He’s been a part of the Slovakian Under 18 program and probably will be a World Junior player. We like that he has that elite calibre.”
Seca is confident that Geci will join the club this coming year.
“The conversations I’ve had with him — even as of 15 minutes ago — and his agent, he’s excited to be here. We’re also excited to have him. We’ll get him here and get him acclimatized. His English is excellent, so I think parts of that will be pretty seamless. He’s just a really good kid, too and that’s part of the homework that we did. We spoke to him before the draft to get a sense of his character and his commitment off the ice and it all looks good.”
The 16-year-old is eligible to be chosen in the 2021 NHL draft. He said he’s excited to get started.
“I am really proud and honoured to be a part of the Sarnia Sting organization and be a part of the Sting family,” he said. “I can’t wait to get things started and to see you all soon.”
The Sting decided to pass on their second-round pick with Swedish defenceman Eric Hjorth set to return this coming season.
