Lambton OPP have identified the deceased person in a sudden death reported early Saturday morning in Grand Bend.

Police, Lambton EMS, and the Lambton Shores Fire Department responded to River Road at about 1:30 a.m.

When they arrived they were told that someone had fallen into the river and had not resurfaced. The Lambton OPP Marine Unit and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) were called in to help with the search. The person was found several hours later in the water and was pronounced dead at local hospital. No foul play is suspected.

OPP identified the person Sunday morning as 51-year old Michelle Mahood of London.

Mahood worked for St. Joseph’s Health Care in London as its director of ambulatory surgery services. In a written statement, the hospital expressed sympathy to her family for the sudden loss and added that she will be missed by her co-workers.

“We at St. Joseph’s Health Care London are shocked and saddened by the news of the sudden passing of Michelle Mahood,” the release read. “Michelle has been a loved and respected part of the St. Joseph’s family for many years and she will be greatly missed.”

The hospital added that Mahood began her career at St. Joseph’s after graduating from the University of Windsor School of Nursing.

OPP West Region Forensic Identification Services and the Lambton County Crime Unit also assisted in the investigation.
