Woman arrested after allegedly reaching for officer's gun

Sarnia police have arrested two suspects after an altercation at a hotel that saw a female suspect allegedly try to steal an officer's handgun.

Police received a 911 hang-up call from the 1100 block of Christina St. N on Wednesday at around 8:25 p.m.

The unit was being rented to a 34-year-old woman who police said was on release conditions not to have contact with a 39-year-old man, who was also allegedly in the room.

They said the man answered the door and left the room when confronted by officers. When police tried to arrest the woman, the man allegedly began yelling in the officers' faces.

It's alleged she slipped out of her handcuffs, yelled for the man's help, and he tried to pull her away.

Police said during the struggle the woman grabbed onto an officer’s holstered firearm, which required the officer to dislodge her hand from the gun and secure it.

Both the man and woman were arrested with no further incident and taken into custody.

The woman is charged with failure to comply with a release order, escape lawful custody, resisting a peace officer, and disarming a peace officer.

The man faces charges of facilitating breach by communicating, obstructing justice, and resisting a peace officer.

Both were being held in custody pending bail hearings.
